If you have been having pain or weakness in your shoulder or upper arm lately
you may be suffering from bicipital tendonitis.
If you have this condition you will find it hard to lift your arm without pain in
the shoulder and upper arm. The biceps muscle has two tendons that attach
to bones in the shoulder. The long head of the tendon can become inflamed
from repetitive overhead activities, reaching activities, or from overhead lifting.
The most common activities to cause inflammation to the biceps tendon are pickle ball,
tennis, and swimming. Most people that suffer from bicipital tendinitis do these
repetitive activities and it builds up and gets worse over time.
If you lift something heavy and it aggravates the tendon this can also cause irritation
that will get worse with movement of the arm.
The best treatment options to heal biceps tendinitis include:
therapeutic ultrasound, applying ice, and limiting overhead activity or repetitive motions with the arm.
Therapeutic ultrasound and applying ice will reduce inflammation and swelling.
If treated correctly it will typically take about four treatments for the tendon to heal.
